With the support of Dress for Success I was able to launch my own non-profit that combats the maternal health crisis among Black People.
Elisa came to us about 3 years ago when she was looking for assistance with career coaching. She received services from several of our programs and attended PWG every month. She graduated with her bachelor’s in nursing, went back to school for her master’s, and opened her own nonprofit with the help of Dress for Success Oklahoma City and other community partners. As a woman of color and single mother of two, she was concerned with the maternal mortality rate among African American women in the United States. She focused her time and energy on an organization that would help decrease these numbers. She opened the Maternal Society in October 2023. The organization is dedicated to maternal infant child Health and wellness through a community-based approach of lactation services, perinatal care, health literacy, and child development. Elisa is not only a gem of Dress for Success, but a gem in the community.
